Question by rrazcueta · Aug 05, 2015 at 09:10 PM · spriteorthographic

Why is Sprite Layering different in Scene View vs. Game View?

We're making an overhead action game. The camera is orthographic and looking down 60 degrees at the playing field to look like a 3D version of Bomberman or Zelda.

We are using some simple 3D objects to represent game objects, but for more complicated things we are using sprites. You can see that the Player object is in front of the Statue sprite in the Scene View but not in the Game View. The Game View layering is incorrect, and we don't know how to fix it. Thanks

The player object is a sprite, as is the statue? Have you set the Sorting Layer and/or Order In Layer values on the sprite renderer?

Thanks! We played with adjusting the ordering layer, and it allows us to put the Player sprite in front of the Statue sprite. We're going to try to sync the Order In Layer to sync with the Z axis, but that will limit us to having everything on the same vertical plane. What we ultimately want is proper 3D layering of sprites like in the Scene view.

In that case, textured billboarded quads may work better than sprites; the sorting will happen automatically.
