Question by RR25 · Sep 12, 2015 at 07:14 PM · splash screen

Default splash screen has black borders (Android)

As the title says, when I compile a game and run it on Android, the splash screen doesn't fill the whole screen (it has black borders around it).

Screenshot

I'm using Unity Personal, so I can't change the splash screen settings.

I have tried reinstalling Unity and trying with a new empty project, but the problem persists.

In another forum, the only solution I found was rescaling the Splash.png image, which I'm not even sure is allowed by the license. Using this solution, the quality of image displayed on Android isn't as good as it used to be.

I also have this problem. I think it might be the resolution settings. I think the black border is always there, and it just becomes visible if the image quality of the project is compromised.

Normally this kind of boxing is because the resolution you're trying to run the application in is smaller than the native resolution when trying to run a full screen. Also Aspect Ratio can affect boxing. Like Ratboy said, check your resolution and aspect ratio settings.

I'm betting its the ETC compression setting. I'm gonna try ETC2 or Adreno (since my phone is an Adreno processor) and see what happens. I definitely have my player settings at full res, and there's not really any aspect ratio options in the project settings for Android, like there are for PC standalone. If thats the problem, then updating is the only solution (assu$$anonymous$$g Unity fixes it) then the only alternative I can think of is to have to release multiple compression settings versions on the play store, if you're at that point in production of course. Obviousy it would be nice to have one Universal file that works on all devices, but that would just be too easy ;)

I have just tried with ETC, ETC2 and Adreno and nothing changed : (

I definitely didn't have that problem on 5.0.1, and I only recently upgraded, so yeah, that sounds likely.
