Player position fixed, moving universe around. What happens to rigidbodies?

Hello guys, as hinted in the title, I'm planning to create a game about space exploration (oh, what an original idea!). The base idea is to fix the player position at the origin, and translate the whole universe when moving, in order to avoid the usual floating point precision issues at certain distances. While I'm sure that the static objects inside the "universe object" will stay at their relative positions, what happens to the rigidbodies? Will they suffer inertia? Example: I move my ship forward (translated: I move the universe backward), then I stop moving (instant stop, no slowing down): so the universe immediately stops going backward (and so do all the static objects inside): what if there's a rigidbody inside the universe? Does it keep going backward for a little bit, as inertial movement? If so, should I completely avoid rigidbodies besides the player ship?
