Unity not responding on various things

Hi guys up until recently, my Unity was working as it was intended, but these past couple of days it started being non responsive when I try to compress a texture and when I try to access the sprite editor, also I've tried opening it up on my MAC and there it becomes non responsive on loading. Does anyone have a solution/advice as to how to get rid of this?

P.S. I can assure you that both my PC and MAC are high end workspaces so I don't think that the problem is either of two.
