How to assign a Sprite object a Texture object?

I looked at some other solution and they're not applicable to what I'm attempting to do.

I have a Block class which creates a GameObject for itself in the constructor and adds the necessary components. I have assigned the GetComponent<SpriteRenderer>().sprite to my Sprite object and I can't figure out how to get my Texture2D object to show on the sprite. When I try sprite.texture = myTex2D it says its "read only."

I'm trying to build, instantiate, and render objects on screen only from code.
