Mathf.Clamp on Camera X Axis

I've looked at other posts on here, Googled and found plenty of examples and even tried copying/pasting but I get the same result, it clamps the bottom half of the screen but the top half doesn't work as hoped, as soon as the camera goes above the center axis point it jumps to the bottom clamp.

     public float viewSensitivity;
 
     [Header("lookY Only")]
     public float viewRange = 60f;
     public float mouseY;
     public float rotY;
     public Vector3 rotVector;
 
 
 void Update() {
             rotVector = transform.localEulerAngles;
             mouseY = Input.GetAxis ("Mouse Y") * viewSensitivity;
             rotVector.x = Mathf.Clamp (rotVector.x + mouseY, -viewRange, viewRange);
 
             transform.localEulerAngles = rotVector;
 }


This is attached to the Camera which is a child object of my Player Prefab, any ideas or help would be great.
