setparent is ignored

Hello, i try to set the parent of an object to the main canvas after an click on a different menu item. However it fails the object stays in the menu canvas, Here is a short snipped of the code. I have no idea what i am doing wrong.

         static public GameObject getobjbn(string name) {
             UnityEngine.Object[] listing = (UnityEngine.Resources.FindObjectsOfTypeAll(typeof(GameObject)));
             foreach (GameObject l in listing) {
                 if (name == l.name) {
                     return l;
 
         static public GameObject maincanvas = h.getobjbn("maincanvas");
         static public GameObject mapprefab = h.getobjbn("mapprefab");
         static public GameObject buildprefab = h.getobjbn("buildprefab");
 
 
 this.thisobj = buildmapitem ("Under construction", h.Instantiate2(g.buildprefab), new Vector3(1,1,1), mfolder, coordp);
 public GameObject buildmapitem(String name, GameObject fmitem, Vector2 scales, string folder, h.tuf coord) {
 fmitem.transform.SetParent (g.maincanvas.transform);
