By changing a Camera option during runtime - i.e. HDR or Occlusion Culling, I got vertical control back. But the control goes away as soon as the game is reset. It seemed to be a problem with instantiation.

So following up on this, I duplicated my first person controller and deleted the original that was giving me problems. That fixed it for me.

For anyone having this problem, I saw an answer that works, but isn't ideal. "Delete main camera if not needed." This works because the main camera is tagged as main camera. Just make sure the only camera tagged as main camera is the one for the character controller and you'll be good to go :)

Hello, I have the same problem, this time I'm building for VR for the oculus rift. My game has one camera for the monitor, and another for the rift. Whenever I add the VR character into the game, my mouselook on the monitor fails to look up or down. Any help?

This is the easy solution, if your FPS Controller stops looking up and down, after you import a new big asset package, like the Post Processing Stack:

1. Go to Assets > Reimport All

2. Select your default "Main Camera", in the Inspector change it's Tag to "Untagged".

That's it. The Main Camera thing, it's because the FPS Controller child, FirstPersonCharacter, has it's own Camera component tagged "Main Camera". And there can be only one.

Click like if this worked for you, so others can see this. Thank you.
