On your FPS, check your Y Rotation of your child object "MainCamera" in the editor.

I stupidly had a starting Y rotation on my FPS maincamera child set to 180 degrees (so my player was facing the other way). This caused the following line of code to produce an error:

 m_CameraTargetRot = ClampRotationAroundXAxis(m_CameraTargetRot);

error:

 "transform.localRotation assign attempt for 'MainCamera' is not valid. Input rotation is { NaN, NaN, NaN, NaN }. UnityEngine.Transform:set_localRotation(Quaternion)"

As soon as I set the child MainCamera rotation in the editor back to (0,0,0) it worked perfectly. If you want to apply any starting rotation, apply it to the FPS parent object rather than the camera child object. A rookie mistake I didn't even realize I made which cost me a few hours of asking the Unity Gods for answers!

After reading your question I observed that you don't have research knowledge. If you have then would not ask here because you would find it by searching manually. I will recommend you to work on researching and if can't do than hire a research paper writing service to get help from them because it is necessary and also help you with future questions or projects.

This is the easy solution, if your FPS Controller stops looking up and down, after you import a new big asset package, like the Post Processing Stack:

1. Go to Assets > Reimport All

2. Select your default "Main Camera", in the Inspector change it's Tag to "Untagged".

That's it. The Main Camera thing, it's because the FPS Controller child, FirstPersonCharacter, has it's own Camera component tagged "Main Camera". And there can be only one.

Click like if this worked for you, so others can see this. Thank you.

Hello, I have the same problem, this time I'm building for VR for the oculus rift. My game has one camera for the monitor, and another for the rift. Whenever I add the VR character into the game, my mouselook on the monitor fails to look up or down. Any help?
