Question by aav12 · Feb 22, 2016 at 09:25 AM · importblenderfbxdistortion

.FBX model Is distorted

I have a rigged character in Blender which is working perfectly fine.alt text

I exported this model to Unity as a .FBX and when I open my model is Distorted.alt text Even when I export the model as a .OBJ it has the same result. Upon Observation I see the parts that have "holes" in them are the grayed parts in my Blender model. Why is my Model doing this? And why is it Only the grayed parts? How can I fix it?

Maybe you should check your normals. If you are in the edit mode, on the right scroll down until you see "Mesh Display" (see screen capture).

normals

Here at the bottom you can switch on/off the normals. Make sure they are all pointing to the outside. If not you could try: Mesh -> Faces -> Recalculate normals or select the wrong faces and flip them with: Mesh -> Faces -> Flip Normals

Just hit Ctrl-N in edit-mode to recalculate normals OUTSIDE (if you really goofed the modeling you may need to recalculate normals INSIDE: Shift-Ctrl-N). Also you can turn on backface culling in Blender to see how it will look in Unity...go to the shading panel (right below display panel).
