Does unity allocate memory to unassigned source images?

Hello every one, I need to load assets (textures) from Resources folder at runtime and unload them when i don't need them, It would be very easy for me if i create the game objects with their components and just load the textures from Resources folder and assigning them to the component.

Do unity allocate any memory space to the unreferenced texture in the image component or should i add the component then load their image from the Resource folder.
