Question by urbanespaceman · Mar 23, 2016 at 04:45 PM · android sdk

Setup Android NDK

Unity version: 5.3.4f1 (64 bit).

I have Android studio installed on the same PC and used the Android SDK manager in that to install the SDK and NDK (amongst other things), with the NDK sitting in the folder c:\users[me]\AppData\Local\Android\sdk\ndk-bundle

When I try and set up the paths for android in Unity Edit>Preferences>External Tools it allows the sdk path fine, but when I put in the above path for the NDK I just get the message "Unable to detect NDK version, please pick a different folder".

Had the same problem. Android Studio installs NDK r11e and seems unable to install any other version. However, Unity wants r10e specifically. You have to install it manually, e.g. by using the download button within Unity (Edit -> Preferences -> External Tools -> NDK).

On $$anonymous$$ac, what do I do with the bin file that r10e provides? Unity won't let me select that, but I also can't unpack it.

The mac archive should be a zip. Can you download it from https://developer.android.com/ndk/downloads/older_releases.html#ndk-10e-downloads

Here are instructions to install the downloaded android-ndk-r10e-darwin-x86_64.bin file on $$anonymous$$ac: https://github.com/inferjay/AndroidDevTools/wiki/Installing-the-ND$$anonymous$$-On-Linux-and-$$anonymous$$ac-OS-X-(Darwin)

@Blubberfisch Once you have manually installed the ND$$anonymous$$, where do you find it, so you can browse to it and set the path in Unity?

Open a ter$$anonymous$$al window. Go to the directory to which you downloaded the package. Run chmod a+x on the downloaded package. Execute the package. For example:

ndk$ chmod a+x android-ndk-r10c-darwin-x86_64.bin

ndk$ ./android-ndk-r10c-darwin-x86_64.bin

The folder containing the ND$$anonymous$$ extracts itself.

@amirensit Have you solved this yet? Once you have manually installed the ND$$anonymous$$, where do you find it, so you can browse to it and set the path in Unity?

I had installed and mapped the version that Unity indicated under Preferences --> External Tools, but it still threw this error when building. So I closed Unity and restarted the computer. When I tried again without changing anything, then the build finished. Restarting Unity might work too. Hope this helps.
