Question by nasha · Mar 31, 2016 at 10:38 AM · installationactivationlicensingaccount

Is the unity licence associated to my user account?

I have a single machine pro license, I want to know If I can use the same key on the same machine, with different user accounts?

Is the single machine license valid for all user accounts on this PC or linked to a single user account?

The sign in on the Editor is for usage with the Unity Services, mostly.

You can answer your own question by creating a new free account and finding out what happens if you sign in with that free account.

You may not be allowed to sign in. If you are allowed to sign in with a free account but you still have access to Pro features then the answer to this question is 'No'.

If Pro features are not available then the answer is Yes as it would be apparent that the License keys are being managed. These days with Unity 5 (I could be wrong) the Pro features are extra services and do not change the editor as the full feature set is available for both.

Of course this just explains workings of the Editor. Your license is very much tied to your account. Remember you had to go through the process of Activating your license.

You should really contact the support/licensing teams through the website contact form. I'm just spouting conjecture.

Yes, that's what i Figured as well, as I don't want to use the key then check if its attached to my account or not. Also I don't know if I can relieve the license attached to my user account and use it some other account on the same machine. Which is why I want to know if the license is Strictly machine based or Machine+User account.

The actual answer to this will probably be found in the Pro License FAQ on the website.

You can also manage your licenses on the site

https://support.unity3d.com/hc/en-us/articles/205578829-How-do-I-manage-licenses-in-my-Unity-Account-

This section of the License agreement may shed some light.

You May Not Use Unity Personal with Unity Pro or any Unity Pro Add-On Products

You may not combine or integrate Licensee Content that you develop with Unity Personal simultaneously with any Licensee Content that you develop with Unity Pro or any Unity Pro Add-On Products. Licensee Content developed with Unity Personal will be tagged with an identifier that is used to enforce this restriction. One User Per License A specific license key is required for each individual using any version of the Software. Unity Pro users may install the Software on both a primary and a secondary computer for use only by the same user. You may not use both installations simultaneously. If you purchase a standard, single license key educational license, you must purchase a license for each computer on which the Software is to be used.

Basically, you cant mix Pro and Free on the same projects. You can install Pro on two machines but only use 1 at a time.

There is also a 'Managing Licenses' section at the bottom of the FAQ.

Can I activate on two different versions of Unity on the same machine? Yes you can. You will need to install the two versions in different directories on your machine to avoid the installer overwriting.

Yeah, That definitely means It is linked to the user account+machine. Its better I don't activate unity with my personal account.

Thanks though
