Horizontal Layout Group Visual Effects

Is there a way to add visual effects to a horizontal layout group, or will I need to do something custom?

Basically when an element of the layout is removed at runtime I would want the other elements to "bounce" into their new position rather than instantly snap there.

I.e. If I have 3 images in a middle centred layout and remove the middle image, I'd want the left and right image to visually move into the space created when the middle image was removed as opposed to instantly appear there.
