Performance - Mesh vs Cubes

Hello,

I have a very quick question. Why is it, that when I build a complex mesh of about 55,000 Vertices, Unity handles it extremely well!

But if I have an array of cubes for example 100 x 100 (10,000), Unity does not do so well.

At the end of the day, both are mesh/geometry. So what gives?

10,000 cubes would result in 240,000 vertices, for what it's worth.

6 sides * 4 vertices per side, because each corner needs 3 associated normals.

Beyond that, you're requesting information from 10,000 distinct objects, each with their own transform information, rather than a single object.

Okay, that makes sense. But but even when I have a multiple mesh that adds up to the equivalent of 240,000 vertices, the performance is still really good.
