I am not sure if Blender is the best, basically because Blender is the only one I have ever used in my life. $$anonymous$$ind using Blender is not easy, however Blender has most -if not all, the capabilities to be a profesional free software. I used sometimes GI$$anonymous$$P to draw the textures once I do a rough texture with Blender.

Some thoughts on the matter; in general, since our project is small (basically a group of friends who loves videogames, RPG, etc but we all have different jobs and family), we bought many of our designs out of UnityAsset store. We modify them with Blender or in those cases we can not find proper designs that suit our purpose, then we spend a lot of time on making the 3D design. Our $$anonymous$$m is good with scripting and understand Unity ok by now, our weak point is the 3D designing field.

Blender may look at the beginning really hard and tough, but once you follow up few tutorials about making, rigging, texturing, etc 3D models, you get the idea of how to work with it and use it. Now, it may take a long way to get decent 3D designs, after all, it is like a profession, 3D designer, and any profession requires practise to do it well, and also a $$anonymous$$imum of artist innate skills.

If you want to check what we achieved so far following the above strategy, feel free to do so on a couple of our YouTube videos of alpha/beta versions; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIhsiqkWkF4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWk-3teZ2i4

It has required a lot of work to do the above, now, if we had designed the mayority of those designs ourselves we would not have gone that far I assure you, 3D designing requires time. I find easier scripting, but then other people find it the other way around. It is a matter of balancing your $$anonymous$$m or adding resources (in our case buying assets). If our crowdfunding goes well, then we will hire 3D designers to improve things even more.

If not Blender its the likes of Sketchup and $$anonymous$$ilkshape.

I'd personally avoid Sketchup. No experience of $$anonymous$$ilkshape.

Blender :- Blender is actually a Serious Professional Suite. It has amazing functionality and is improved upon constantly. You may be put off thinking that somehow its lacking because its FREE, but I assure you this is not the case. It's seriously good.

Yes its complicated and very important to learn the keyboard shortcuts. Do tutorials and learn. There is no easy route.

  1. Unity Answers is not a place to ask subjective questions, like people's opinions on the best anything. It is intended for specific, technical questions.

  2. The answer is obviously Blender...
