Animation/motion stutter after running for many hours

Hello, We're having a problem with our 3rd person character animation/motion (mecanim) when our game is left running for many hours or overnight.

Basically the characters' motion becomes very stuttery almost like interpolation has been turned off on the rigidbody (it hasn't).

It affects all characters in the game and the effect persists on returning to the game's frontend (which destroys all existing characters) picking a new character and starting a new game, so it seems to be some global effect rather than something localized to a particular character(s).

Our characters use root motion and rigidbodies.

I can reproduce the problem in the editor by setting timescale to 100 and leaving it to run for ~15 minutes

It's rather odd, framerate is rock solid, memory use is normal (no garbage collection) and all looks fine in the profiler, yet the stuttering is very obvious and annoying.

Anyone seen this kind of thing before or have any ideas?
