Question by bokchoy4221 · Jun 27, 2016 at 10:21 AM · objectrandom.rangecolor change

Random colour on object

Hi guys,

i have this code that instantiates a game object (a TEXT) when ever i click a button. What code do i write, so that when ever it is instantiated, it is a random colour instead of its default (white)?

Thanks

public class OnClickPopUp : MonoBehaviour {

 public GameObject popUp; // prefab to instantiate
 public Canvas canvas; // father canvas
 public Vector2 position;

 public void PopUP ()

 {

     position.x = UnityEngine.Random.Range(0, Screen.width);
     position.y = UnityEngine.Random.Range(0, Screen.height);
     GameObject clone = (GameObject)Instantiate(popUp, position, Quaternion.identity);
     clone.transform.SetAsLastSibling();
     clone.transform.SetParent(canvas.transform);

     Destroy(clone, 0.2f);
 }  }

First, add this to the top:

 using UnityEngine;

Then, add this line after instantiation:

 clone.GetComponent<Text>().color = Random.ColorHSV();

If it doesn't work, try this:

 clone.GetComponent<Text>().color = new Color(Random.Range(0f, 1f), Random.Range(0f, 1f), Random.Range(0f, 1f), 1f);

Look into using Color32 and just get random ints for the r, g, b values.
