Question by Lipis · Feb 27, 2010 at 03:57 PM · errorshadow

I'm getting "format != kRTFormatARGB32" error when enabling shadows.

I'm getting this error whenever I'm enabling shadows in my scene, but everything seems to work normally:

format != kRTFormatARGB32
UnityEditor.EditorGUIUtility:RenderGameViewCameras(Rect, Rect, Boolean, Boolean)

I have nothing special in my scene (FPC, Terrain, Cube and Directional Light) and I'm using Unity 2.6 on my old Macbook. I can provide more details of my system if it has anything to do with this error.

Does anybody knows how to solve this error or why I'm getting it?

What sort of GPU does your old $$anonymous$$acbook have? It sounds like it doesn't support the larger texture format for shadows.

@$$anonymous$$urcho, It's Intel G$$anonymous$$A 950 (VRA$$anonymous$$: 64 $$anonymous$$B of Shared System $$anonymous$$emory). So do you think it's because of that? Is it possible to get rid of the error message somehow? I know that it's an old mac.. :)

I'm pretty sure an Intel GMA 950 won't support render targets, which is what Unity uses to render shadows. However I would have thought Unity would handle the error and given something a little more concrete in it's feedback. Enabling shadows on a system with that GPU (and I use the term loosely) will be incredibly taxing if you do get them to work.

The G$$anonymous$$A 950 renders shadows just fine; I know because I have a $$anonymous$$ac $$anonymous$$i with this chip.

Does anybody else using a $$anonymous$$acbook with the same GPU than can tell me if he/she is getting the same error?

Try updating your OS; there's no real technical difference between my $$anonymous$$ac $$anonymous$$i and your $$anonymous$$acbook.

@Eric5h5 I have the latest release (10.6.2) and I'm still getting this error. (Include the @ symbol if you have another suggestion,otherwise I won't be notified..)

Since there are no more answers to that I'll accept this one.. it might be my old macbook.. works fine on a newer one.. ;)
