How to make points in a mesh transparent?

I'm looking for a way to render certain points/areas of a mesh transparent. The ultimate goal is for me to klick on a given surface rendering the point I clicked and a circle with diameter d around that point transparent. Essentially, imagine shooting someone. Now instead of showing bruises or blood dripping out of the wound or something I'd like to have that hit spot become transparent.

So what I don't want to do is simply take the alpha value of the albedo of the clicked surface and set it to 0 because then obviously I'd end up with the whole mesh being transparent.

I found this thing called projector and experimented with it but it seems to me the given transparent shaders don't work with it the way intended.

Maybe there's a way the clicked point can be translated to the corresponding point on the texture map and then set the alpha of that point plus a circle with diameter d around it to 0? Does that make sense?

Anybody any ideas?
