Unity 5.x freezes on importing assets on a new project (mac)

Hey All

Whenever I open any existing or new project in Unity 5.x on my mac it freezes at the importing assets window at 50%.

I can recreate t$$anonymous$$s issue with t$$anonymous$$s simple scenario:

1. Create a new Unity project

2. Create a new #C script (via Unity GUI)

3. Save

4. Quit Unity

5. Open project <---- Freezes at t$$anonymous$$s stage

I've wiped all traces of Unity and attempted re-installing with no luck -- I've tried t$$anonymous$$s with versions of 5.4, 5.3, 5.2, 5.1 and 5.0.

I've also granted full permissions to the project folder.

It's clearly my system that's at fault; any general direction to solve t$$anonymous$$s would be helpful.
