Question by m3Dium · Aug 30, 2016 at 01:02 PM · gameobjectparentcustom editor

In a CustomEditor, how to find the target's parent?

I have a CustomEditor for a script, say "MyScript", and I want to show some fields only if the object it's attached to is a "root" object, i.e., if it has no parent. Does anyone know how to do that? Thanks in advance.

Only to clarify the question, I'm currently trying to get the parent through:

 void OnInspectorGUI()
 {
     $$anonymous$$yScript myScript = target as $$anonymous$$yScript;
     Transform parentObject = myScript.gameObject.transform.parent;

     if (parentObject == null) {
         // do something
     }
 }

The problem is that I have a hierarchy of game objects, and for all of them the if condition is evaluating to true. Any ideas, sugestions? I must be doing anything really stupid... please, help me to see it. Thanks.

Ok, I managed to get the parent. The problem was that OnInspectorGUI() should be public ins$$anonymous$$d of private. Tanks, anyway.
