Question by christo1745 · Jun 01, 2011 at 11:46 PM · meshblenderplane

Creating a two triangle plane

I would like to create a plane that has only 2 triangles in it. I tried blender but I'm really getting nowhere. The default plane in Unity has a ton of triangles which just isn't necessary for my game. Can someone tell me how to do this?

The one you created in Blender has two triangles by the time it hits Unity. Just create a plane in Blender and save the .blend (or export fbx or collada 1.4) to your Assets and you're done.

Also I think there's something in the asset store that builds planes. God knows it's easy enough.

But go get this first: http://www.unifycommunity.com/wiki/index.php?title=CreatePlane

That link is perfect! Thanks! On a side note, when I tried to import my .blend file initially, it said it failed because I didn't use blender 2.45 or higher, but I just downloaded blender today...oh well, this script is exactly what I needed.

A common problem with blender files is when they are saved in edit mode, which does something to the file. $$anonymous$$ake sure you save when in object mode. This fixes most problems Unity has with a blender file.

There's a two triangle plane on the asset store.

https://www.assetstore.unity3d.com/#/content/5930

And Unity 4.2 has a quad primitive.

The cube has only two triangles per side. Alter the scales to the size you need, and let the height very small. It will not impact rendering too much, because most faces will be invisible (at most 3 faces can be seen at any point).

Just to clarify things: I'm suggesting to use a cube ins$$anonymous$$d of a plane. Depending on what are you tring to do, it makes no difference or may even be a better approach (or a complete disaster, of course).

Who in their right $$anonymous$$d would ever vote down Aldo. This is just not right, so I am upvoting this answer.

Now specifically I can see why this answer may not be suitable, but for the beginner this is a fine approach, something I did alot in my first projects. And with the added bonus of doing it this way, you get a free box collider, most handy.

This is a disgrace, upvote to you Aldo, thanks for all your shared knowledge =]

Edit : Now some joker downvoted this again, what's the story? This 'site is starting to attract some real a$$holes ....

$$anonymous$$e 2, We are also use 2 Tries plane for UI Design. it's much easy and convenient for when you want design like rotation base animation. We are used in a Word Puzzle game to show wrong answer animation, we use two plane with two tries and put on both are in different direction of face.
