Question by Thatmexicanuzer · Nov 10, 2016 at 01:51 AM · interactive

How do I program customizable attributes?

Let me explain

I am making a casino game for a client where he wants the administrator to be able to control the amount of money, how fast it will increase, the period of time in which the money will increase and how many bonuses are going to be each day.

How do I start programming that? Preferably in c#

First, but careful about gambling games, read more here: https://store.unity.com/industries/gambling

With that said, the high level view of the implementation would mean you want to create settings that are pulled from a remote server, this would apply if the game was released as a desktop application or embedded in a webpage.

You would need to gather the requirements which would include:

  1. What settings of the game would you like to change on the fly?

  2. How often do you imagine changing these settings as it will affect when/how often a call occurs to retrieve the current(new) settings for the gaming platform.

  3. What technology does the client want to support, PHP web scripts? WCF Services hosted on windows? CGI? Etc.

  4. Is a backing store required(databases) for history and reporting?

  5. Whatever else you can think of.

Given some of the questions above will change the implementation within the game. Generally however if real money is involved you typically do the calculations for the game server side to protect from in memory modifications to game values passed back, meaning the player will see the events from the server but not generate the calculations for the events on the client machine.

The quick and dirty is to pull the values that are administered from a server periodically or per the clients request(every 10 minutes, every new game, every 24 hours, whatever) and modify the current game settings with them, but it would be wiser if this is done server side as to stop local manipulation of the game settings.
