Which child collider is collided in main?

Hi, I am working on a game and cant figure out this. Wanted to see if someone could help me out. I have a character and 4 platforms around the character. Each platform has 5 colliders, you can see here.

Balls spawning at the edge of the platform and rolls down to character, and character catches them with the pickup animation depending on the distance. I have 5 different pickup animations. Problem is, I cannot figure out how to find the closest ball to the character with the child colliders. Should be something like this;

 for (i=1; i<6 ; i++)
 {
 if (check if the closest collider has a ball in it?)
 {
    if not, skip
 }
 
 if (check if the second closest collider has a ball in it?)
 {
    if yes, set animation int 2, depending on the colliders index
    reset and start over the search from the closest collider
 }
 ....
 ....
 }

I dont know much about class communications and I dont wanna put script to each colliders and send back an index, even if I want I dont know how to make it without messing it up. Too complicated for me. Can anyone help me out?
