Question by Svavinsky · Nov 24, 2016 at 01:34 AM · colliderpositioning

Activate colliders when placing objects?

When manually positioning objects in the scene view, it allows for overlap of non-trigger colliders. However, I would like to be able to position objects with the colliders active so that they are not allowed to overlap. In other words, I would be able to drag the object in scene view and it would stop when it hits a collider. Is there a way of doing this?

Have you taken a look at editor scripts?

I'm new to Unity so I don't know much about those. I'll look into it, thanks!

Question, why do you want to do this? What exactly are you trying to achieve in your project? Context would be appreciated, please.

I have a bucket in 2D (viewed from side) that needs to be completely filled with circle objects. Long story short, the circle colliders are smaller than the actual circle objects, so it makes it hard to visually insert all the objects collider-to-collider. (Also, I'm a Unity noob, so if there's a better way to completely fill a space with objects I am open to suggestions).

In that case, you may benefit from Hydropulse17's comment. You can use the snap with the ctrl key to connect them.

If you're just trying to perfectly align objects, you can use snap with ctrl key or fine tune the positions of objects in the inspector.
