Question by frogfury · Jun 17, 2011 at 08:17 AM · lagdelay

Unity interface lags behind by one action...

Ok, let's say I click on an object in the Hierarchy list. Unity does not select that object in Scene window. Instead, if I perform any other action, it would select the object I clicked on last.
This seems to happen everywhere: the Unity interface does not update itself and seems to lag one step behind my actions. I've googled, but to no avail. Help! (BTW it's not my computer, my specs are more than sufficient to run Unity.)

Have you updated your graphic card drivers to the latest (stable, non-beta) version?

Have you tried to re-install Unity?

Have a look in the Task $$anonymous$$anager, does Unity spike the CPU-time?

Do you have any other software running in the background that might eat CPU?

Have you tried new mouse drivers? I'm using a Wacom mouse and had major issues with a lot of programs - particularly accuracy of the cursor, and some programs wouldn't even register clicks.

Actually, are you on a mac and using both a touchpad and a mouse? Because I believe I heard there was/is an occasional bug with that. If that's the case, try disabling the touchpad. If that fixes it, submit a bug about it ;)

Not using a Wacom. I've got a Logitech $$anonymous$$X518 at 800 dpi; and the problem is only with unity, mouse works fine everywhere else.

ok, something weird just happened. I'm on a Windows machine, but I still tried what Joshua said and disabled the touchpad. This fixed part of the problem. The objects I select in Hierarchy are immediately selected in the Scene window. But everywhere else it still does not update my actions right away. Say I try to rename a script to Test. Then by the time I've typed Test, unity would only show that I've typed "Tes".

That would make me think it's a problem with your drivers.

Joshua, you were right. I researched a bit and it seems that the laptop was arbitrarily switching between Intel and Nvidia graphics. I downloaded drivers from Nvidia (and not the ones from Dell), did a clean install and set the "graphics quality" option to "Let the application decide". I guess a combination of these 3 worked.

Thanks a lot guys!
