Question by Aakash29 · Feb 28, 2017 at 03:36 PM · transform.position

How do I make a particular movement in my object by pressing a specific key?

I want to move the character to a SPECIFIC spot but not by instant teleporting. It should appear like an animation. Like, when I press "W" the character should move to a certain point, and when I place "S" he should return back to the original point.

I am a beginner in Unity, so treat me like an idiot. I'd really appreciate any help. This the code I have come up with till now. It's probably seems like garbage lol`enter code here`.

 using System.Collections;
 using System.Collections.Generic;
 using UnityEngine;

 public class Hide : MonoBehaviour {

         public GameObject Character;

         private bool Hid;
     private GameObject _normal;
     private GameObject _hiding;
     public float speed;

     void Awake()
     {
         _normal = GameObject.Find ("Normal");
         _hiding = GameObject.Find ("Hiding");
     }

     void Start()
     {
         Character.transform.position = new Vector3 (Character.transform.position.x,
             _normal.transform.position.y, _normal.transform.position.z);
     }

     void Update()
     {
         float step = speed * Time.deltaTime;
         if (Input.GetKeyDown ("w")) {
             Character.transform.position = Vector3.MoveTowards (Character.transform.position,
                 _hiding.transform.position, step);
         }
         if (Input.GetKeyDown ("s")) {
             Character.transform.position = Vector3.MoveTowards (Character.transform.position,
                 _normal.transform.position, step);
         }
     }
 }
