Using triggers to create animation sequence

I have five animation states, all of which can be initiated with a trigger. During runtime, I'd like the player to be able to define the order and "loop count" of the animations. That animation sequence could then be played back to the user with a single button press.

When I run this now, each animation seems to be limited to a single trigger (animation1 will go to animation2, but animation1 won't play twice or play again after animation2). Any thoughts?

Example of what I'd like to do (pseudo code):

 for (int i = 0; i < 3; i++) {
 //Repeat the first animation 3 times
 anim.SetTrigger("animation1")
 }
 for (int i = 0; i < 5; i++) {
 //Then repeat the fourth animation 5 times
 anim.SetTrigger("animation4")
 }
 . 
 .
 .
 for (int i = 0; i < n; i++) {
 //Then repeat the nth animation N times
 anim.SetTrigger("animationN")
 }
