Why does the Unity IDE allow adding incompatible components?

Simply, I am a little confused why the IDE allows me to add incompatible components to a gameobject?

For example, I have a prefab with sprite children. I searched components for "shadow" and found the shadow component. I added it. The game runs without errors or warnings.

The shadow, of course, did not appear, so I Google and discover that this component is for UI only: https://docs.unity3d.com/Manual/script-Shadow.html

So why doesn't the IDE at least tell me this? Surely it "knows" what's compatible or not??
