Question by technoviking · Jun 25, 2011 at 03:00 PM · importmap

Convert .map to Unity3d

Hello,

I've tried making houses in Unity3d, but it takes me very much time and in CoD4 Radiant I can make them at nearly the speed of light. When I make a scene in CoD4 Radiant, it will save that scene as a .map file. Now, is there any way to convert this .map file so it can be opened in Unity3d?

Thanks in advance.

No, Untiy doesn't support any other game engine format.

Ehm macfanpro that's defenitely not true. I know you can convert from Sketchup to Unity3d, and 3dsmax is prolly possible as well.

They are not game engines. Sketchup and 3DS max are 3D modeling software, not level creation software. If Radiant can export .fbx or .dae, Unity can take those, but not level files.

That's true, however I know you can convert from CoD4 Radiant to GtkRadiant as well, then to 3dsmax and then to Unity3d. Just wondering if there's a faster way around.

Nope, unless you want to write your own importer.

You would need to write an importer, or have someone write it for you. Very little is impossible with Unity. I've been working on an Unreal importer, FWIW.

Q3Map2 has a converter that converts .BSP to .ASE which can be opened in a 3D program and converted to .FBX or something Unity reads. More information on the conversion process can be found here.

You can also build in UDK then export the brushes as a mesh, and then import it to Unity.

Or you can bypass these hack-y methods and use an excellent level design extension such as ProBuilder.
