How to crossfade between animation not using crossfade??

I'd like to create a real helicopter animation, but if I only use the weight of the animationstate it's a little Jerkily when I pass between the back and forward animation.However here's the code

 function Start(){

 idle = animation["idle"];
 back = animation["back"];
 forward = animation["forward"];
 left = animation["left"];
 right = animation["right"];

 forward.enabled = true;
 forward.weight = 0;
 forward.layer = 1;

 back.enabled = true;
 back.weight = 0;
 back.layer = 1;

 left.enabled = true;
 left.weight = 0;
 left.layer = 1;

 right.enabled = true;
 right.weight = 0;
 right.layer = 1;

 idle.enabled = true;
 idle.weight = 0;
 idle.layer = 1;

 animation.SyncLayer(1);

 }

 function Update(){

 forward.weight = Input.GetAxis("Vertical");
 back.weight =-Input.GetAxis("Vertical");
 left.weight = -Input.GetAxis("Horizontal");
 right.weight =  Input.GetAxis("Horizontal");
 idle.weight = 1 -animation["forward"].weight- animation["back"].weight-animation["left"].weight-animation["right"].weight;

}
