GetComponent for a Scrolling Background in 2D platformer?

Hello I'm currently working on a small 2D platformer project. My idea is to have a quad object with a background material that will loop. I want the background to move according to the speed in which my camera is moving, since my camera follows the player. Currently I have the background as a child of the camera and it's always in front of it. That way I only have to have 1 quad to render my background since it'll just loop. The background is the same no matter how far the player runs, jumps, or falls so I figured this was the most efficient solution. The problem I've run into is that it seems as though I'll have to use GetComponentInParent every frame in order to make this work. Any other ideas?

Just store a reference to your background in Awake or Start and use that ins$$anonymous$$d of GetComponent all the time.

I'm already doing that. The issue is that I have to get component the movement of the camera every frame. I think a static background will just work best since what I want isn't achievable in an efficient way
