Why is Unity freezing after new project?

Little bit of information that may help.

I am a graphic and web design teacher using Unity to make games with my students. I’ve made many many examples on my personal computer and my work computer using the latest Unity version (2017.1.0) to create examples for my assignments. When I ask my class to open up Unity and create a new project, half of my students’ new projects freeze and I have to force quite the program. Unity recognizes that a new project has been made, so I either re-try opening the new project or just trying making a new one all together. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. Some computers open it first try, some computers open after multiple tries, some not at all.

Is this some sort of issue on the latest version of unity? Do I need to update my unity version because of a bug? Should I try reverting back to Unity 5.6.3 where I had no issue like this?

Any information is greatly appreciated. If this question has been asked before, please just re-direct me to the answer.

I just updated my Unity to 2017.1.2 and now I am getting the same issue as most of my students. My own work computer was fine, but I thought to try and update my own before breaking a students computer.

Can someone please help or give any idea to why this may be happening.

This is the issue that must be resolved first.
-Does this issue occur if the user logs on as the computer administrator?

-After a full system scan, I’d make sure all antivirus and security software is disabled on the computer for one test, to see if it’s causing the problem (and exclude the problematic folders from scanning, if so.)

-I would next try an uninstall and reinstall unity, with the security software disabled, possibly even using a fresh download.
