Apply Damage Universally

Is there a way to add damage to objects with health universally? Let's say a grenade or bomb explodes and it damages a vehicle, an enemy and the player. The characters will have different scripts based on their class with the health variable on each. What can I do besides adding another script that handles the health of the actors?
