Quad colour darkens in black background,Quad color darkens in black background

When I put materials on quads, the colour darkens. Not sure if this is generally for materials, but it happened to me using Quads. Why does that happen? How Can I prevent that from happening? ,I want to make a white quad in a black background, but it darkens. Same with all colors Why does this happen? How can I prevent that from happening?
