Question by ryandeimling · Jan 26, 2018 at 07:06 PM · bakingfreezing

Baking freeze PC at Create ProbSet every time.

I am currently building out a scene in Unity and every time it gets to Create Probeset, it will get stuck there and eventually freeze my PC. I noticed that the CPU is maxed out at 100% on this section as well as the 24GB of DDR4 ram I have, but this also happens at other phases of the bake processes and it doesn't die there. Anything I can do to help push this along?

Edit - 1 I recently tried clearing the GI cache but it still froze when it got to Creating Probesets. I also have 100GB Cache storage available and its not even close to maxing out. The CPU is a core i5 6600k. I can probably upgrade to a i7 7700k since it will work on my current motherboard, but would hate to buy it if this issue is not related to the CPU (even though its maxed out) Its pretty frustrating.

My scene is 8km x 8km. I removed static from all of my items and then went into the light settings and changed Indirect Resolution to 0.2 (down from the unity default of 2) and then changed the Lightmap resolution to 20 (down from the unity default of 40)

Ran the bake process again and the process completed this time without freezing. Still took a long while, but it has completed.

Same issue here with 4*4 tile terrain about 16 square kilometres... You have just to wait a couple of hours?

Its been a while since I did this but I can say that I ended up running this while I went to sleep and then to work. So it was a 17-hour window, but it was finished when I was off work. Unfortunately, I cannot tell you how long it took in the 17 hours I was not there.

Also, This has not happened since.
