Question by unit_nick · Jan 30, 2018 at 05:22 AM · destroygameobject

Can't destroy object created in editor

In a script I run I need to create an object. However once the script has run I would like to destroy the object, but I can't figure out how to do it.

This sample highlights the problem

 using UnityEngine;
 using UnityEditor;

 public class WillNotDestroy : EditorWindow
 {
     [MenuItem("Custom Tasks/Create And Destroy")]
     static void CreateAndDestroy()
     {
         GameObject go = new GameObject();
         go.name = "Help destroy me";
         Destroy(go);
     }
 }

I need to destroy that game object but Destroy(go) doesn't work.

You are not instantiating gameobject. please check this page

you need to add "Instantiate(go);" somewhere after creating go.

just add this code into line 10:

 Instantiate(go);

You have to use DestroyImmediate instead of Destroy.And you can't invoke a delayed destruction in editor script.

 DestroyImmediate(go);

You can read more about it here

Odd thing is I had already got that far and it hadn't seemed to work. I tried again and it worked. I must have done something else wrong in between.
