Instantiate random image and replace image in the same position

I am new to unity and trying to create an image game where an image flashes and the kid will have to type out the object in a textfield before the time runs out after which , a random image will appear and repeat. But I am not sure how to do that.

Do I instantiate it and destroy the previous image? How does one instantiate a random image from a bunch of different images? Do I use prefabs?

I'd use an array of sprites and select which one to display via Random.Range
