Question by rsud · Jul 25, 2011 at 01:18 AM · transparentillumination

transparent self-illumination?

Is it possible for me to setup an additional material mapping of transparent self-illumination?

Alpha of 0 should be transparent, any other values should self-illuminate (fairly obvious!).

How can I set this up?

I do not understand what you are asking. No it is not fairly obvious.

Please edit your question to make it more clear what you want as an answer.

Sorry, but not sure how to be clearer....

I want a material map that when the pixel alpha is 0 it is transparent. When it is not zero the color self-illu$$anonymous$$ates.

I want a transparent-self-illu$$anonymous$$ation combo which I currently don't see offered as one of the built in materials.

I want this too, vertex lit != self illu$$anonymous$$ating. $$anonymous$$aybe I should learn to write shaders...

@duncan-1: :D get used to it, you have 17 answers and 41 percent accept-rate. I have 1300+ answers and just 40 percent and it's getting worse, day by day.

This shader looks perfect! Only problem is I can't change its alpha value for some reason.

thingColour.a = 0.5f;

thing.renderer.material.color = thingColour;

This does nothing, and the "thing" just renders at 100% alpha, even though debug.log says that the material.color.a value HAS changed to 0.5

Any idea why?

This is your best bet, unless you plan on writing your own shader.
