Question by dankorotin · Apr 12, 2018 at 03:01 PM · texturematerialmaterials

[Solved] Giving all objects in my game the same single matte black texture...

I'm making a very short game that consists of black 2d silhouettes and a complex 3d environment (for which I found a bunch of models, some with textures, some without). I want for in-game lights to create a contrast from the black 2d silhouette and the 3D black matte environment. However, the assets that I pulled in have a lot of details, so it'd be extremely inefficient for me to apply the material to each object by hand. Is their a way to apply the same matte to all objects in a scene and be able to adjust that matte?

Please help out, you'll be saving a very stressed out college student.

Good day.

Yes, you can select all object you want (or the prefabs) to paint, and add them Tag, for example "Paintable".

Then you can use FindObjectsWithTag (Object"S", with s, so the result wil lbe an array of gameobjects. Without S only look for 1 object) with something like this:

 foreach(GameObject ObjectToPaint in GameObject.FindObjectsWithTag("Paintable")
 {
 ObjectToPaint.GetComponent<Renderer>().material = SomeBlackMaterial
 }

So the foreach will create an array with all objects with selected tag. and will paint (in our case) all of them.

If helped, accept the answer and close the question! Bye! :D
