Question by vitaliy_os · Apr 23, 2018 at 11:16 AM · transformparentvuforiaclone

SetParent keeps cloning my gameObject?

I want to assign my object to a new parent and this is working well. But somehow the object ("MySpider") will keep cloning like here in the picture: alt text

Have been searching for some similar topics, but don't know how to solve this.

The code I'm using is pretty simple, but its definitely the set parent function causing trouble, cause the normal transform and rotation are working fine.

 origin = behaviour.transform;
 spider.transform.SetParent(origin, true);
 spider.transform.SetPositionAndRotation(origin.position, origin.rotation);

Are you sure some other script isn’t cloning the spider object?

Set parent and set position do not clone an object. There must be a different piece of code in your poject that is duplicating this object.

I'm very sure there is no other script but this attached to my object. If I comment out the setParent line its only one instance and its transformed to the right position and rotation.

As this isn't reproducible, there must be some other script acting on your object. Are you confident that this behavior happens when a vanilla object in your scene has its parent reassigned? If not, then you will need to check for that.

Found a solution/(error). In my case the parent object was a tracked Vu$$anonymous$$ark from the Vuforia framework. The Vu$$anonymous$$ark was in the scene, but the instances seem to be clones of it ins$$anonymous$$d of creating new ones!? Don't know why they are doing this but now I can work around to prevent the clones to keep my child object. Thx for any help!
