Question by NEVER-SETTLE · May 22, 2018 at 07:00 PM · bugbuttonscolor change

Button color doesn't change | Unity bug?

Hello ladies and gentlemen, hope you are having a wonderful day, if yes, let's make it even more wonderful!

What do you expect the following code to do?

 var newObj = Instantiate(prefabLetterButton, panel.transform);
 newObj.GetComponent<Image>().color = new Color(122, 255, 143, 255); // some sort of green

 var colors = newObj.GetComponent<Button>().colors;
 colors.normalColor = new Color(122, 255, 143, 255;
 newObj.GetComponent<Button>().colors = colors;

You expect it to color the button in "some sort of green", right? nope, if I run the game, it is as white as it's original prefab.
Now let's make it interesting. While the game is running and I'm looking shocked at the button still being white, I click on it and inspect its color in the UnityEditor. To my utter surprise it is the exact color that I've set in the code, both the Image and the Button Normal Color, but in the actual game it's as white as cocaine.
Let's continue, what if I start to change the color from the UnityEditor while the game is running, does it change? Yes and no, it doesn't change if I set it to anything lower than 255 on any of the RGB, it changes instantly if I set it to 255, which explains why when I later went in to the game and wrote .

newObj.GetComponent<Image>().color = Color.red;

and ran the game, the button was actually red, since that color is 255 R.

I've found the issue by reading someone else's post, I don't have the source anymore unfortunately.

The issue is that I presumed that the Color constructor takes in ints, it doesn't! it takes in floats from 0 to 1 (?????). The correct way to do it in my case is to use new Color32(69, 69, 69, 255); // notice the 32 near Color. Still, an interesting behavior that Unity expressed when giving the wrong arguments...
