Fading components that the mouse is not hovering over?

Hi, hopefully this question hasn't already been answered, I've looked but if there is something useful I missed please direct me to it. At the moment I've just been highlighting the components by changing their color and labeling them as the mouse enters by using this great reply script in this post: https://answers.unity.com/questions/1456397/how-can-i-highlight-objects-with-the-mouse-when-th.html

So I have a model that I created in Maya and is made up of different components. In Unity I'm trying to make it so that when OnMouseEnter a component, the rest of the components fade out slightly so that the hovered component stands out. Then OnMouseExit they all go back to normal. This goes for all of the parts of the model.

An example would be a tree consisting of leaves and a trunk. If the mouse hovered over the leaves the trunk would fade out slightly and vice versa.

I'm assuming you have to detect which component the mouse is hovering over and then fade it in or out? Like Thecomponent.GetComponent and then CrossFadeAlpha but I'm not too sure. I'm not good at scripting so I'm a bit lost where to start, any help would be great. Thanks!
