Pass a C# string variable to another script from a projectile script.

I've spent a few hours or so on this now and figured I would ask at this point since I'm getting nowhere. I've read and watched a few videos on here and this has to be simple. I don't consider myself a C# coder.

I've created a plasma projectile and have several types of powerups. I wanted to have one script that I can apply to all the powerups, and then enact the proper effects when applied. I have two scripts one is. SpacePowerups, and PlasmaBullet

 public string PowerupType ="test";
 
         if (col.gameObject.tag == "PowerupBlackHole")
         {
             // BlackHole Powerup achieved activate it
             Debug.Log("Blackhole Power Activated", gameObject);
 
             // set the poweruptype
            PowerupType = "blackhole"

             // pass the power type to the powerup script so we can get the right one.
 
         }

Then in the powerup script, I'm trying to get that variable. Thanks, I've lost my sanity at this point.
