Question by Vortex_Gator · Jun 18, 2018 at 02:05 PM · camerashadowlighting bug

The active camera is making a shadow/darkness on the scene nearby it.

I have a standard assets First Person Controller in a scene that's pretty dark (no ambient lighting, only 1 directional light at 0.1 intensity).

However, I've noticed very annoyingly, that at all times there is a strange "shadow" on the ground where everything is a bit darker closer to the camera, and also if I have the camera at a certain angle (about y -140 to -150) there is a significantly darker, weirdly shaped shadow on the ground (looks like the shadow of a cylinder, but aligned in a strange way).

Using Unity's default "fast" graphics setting, which disables all shadows, doesn't get rid of it at all.

Also, on lower graphics settings that still have shadows, the darker shadow at the negative y rotation seems to have strange "hairs" sticking out of it. It's really weird.

Changing the shadow distance doesn't get rid of it, but extending the distance gives it a very weird effect where it looks like it has loads of cuts in it.

Also, I tried testing with multiple cameras/displays, and sure enough, looking at my FPS controller shows no shadow at all around or behind it, but there's noticably some darkness coming from the camera I'm using to look at them.

So this "shadow" is always being caused by the camera I'm currently viewing out of.

Does anybody know how to get rid of it? I'd like the scene to be quite dark, but the fact that it's more visible further away means that it's impossible since if it's dark enough a few dozen meters away, it's too dark up close to walk around, and if it's bright enough to get rid of the shadow, it's bright enough to walk around and see effortlessly without the flashlight I've made, and the atmosphere is all ruined.

@Vortex_Gator Try changing the shader of your ground or receiving area. It will help you get out of this issue of shadow.
