Dynamic drop shadow for a 2D car game

Hello,

I am trying to make a simple ellipse-shaped shadow for my 2D car game. If I child it to the car object it moves ok with the car but the problem is that it doesn't get the terrain shape(to be more natural). So the shadow curves along the platform the car is going.

It looks like this: alt text

I tried to use a raycasting to get the Y position of the hitpoint and assign it to the shadow sprite but I wasn't successful.

I want to know if there are any other approaches?

Thanks.

I don't want a still shadow, I want it to follow the car and curve itself along the terrain

So you want the shadow to bend? If yes then see This

Have you tried the Unity Projector component?

Can it be used with a 2D project?

I would do the following. since your floor is basically a line of vertices I guess and you know the front and the back of the car's position, you could create a line renderer that matches the vertices the car is on. if it's an in between position, you could just lerp the two adjacent vertices based on the x of whatever end of the car is there.

If you use Photoshop you can try this Drop Shadow Photoshop action to create shadow effect
