Modeling Curtains and basic efficiency options

I am trying for atmosphere in a little project and I want to add curtains as most of the game is in a very dark area.

It is modern and I want to make blinds, the actions and such scripting wise isn't the issue, that's more the fun of it. I'm curious what all of your opinions are for modeling.

You see currently I've got four apartments setup, and I'm talking semi basics, lighting systems and doors a mirror and some cabinets.. Nothing too fancy, but I can get a solid 70 fps still, until I add a few floors etc, then it dips to 50's and such. So I've started considering keeping draw calls in mind,

My initial idea is just to say hey screw it here's 30 stretched cubes, abracadabra 17 fps. (Just an assumption).

I'm going to want to have them react to wind/physics, etc.. I think this is my only option.
