Script doesn't update,C# script doesn't update in Unity

I made a simple script to Instantiate a prefab, just to see it working because I had a problem with it in another Game. I kinda wanted to make it a useful project so i made it so you could spawn one of three different objects. After I saved the script in VisualStudio, it compiled normally and even showed up updated in Unity(When you click at the Script in your assets and you can see it on the right) but it didn't work... I tried reloading Unity and resaving/changing the script a bunch of times but nothing worked :C

I really hope I can solve this issue soon, I'm quite new to coding and can't really get started because basic functions of Unity never work...

Hello there,


If the console doesn't have errors AND the script updates properly in the Preview window, then everything should work.


When you say "basic functions of Unity never work", do you mean Start(), Update(), etc? If yes, then remember that they only work if your script derives from MonoBehaviour (represented as : MonoBehaviour after your class name, at the top).


They also only work if they are present in the scene. Make sure to drag your scrip onto an active (enabled) object in the scene.


Finally, if this doesn't work please share your code in here (at least the important parts) so we can take a look.

Thanks responding, but it already solved itself... Idk how I posted the question before eating dinner and afterwards it just somehow worked, without me changing much...

With basic functions I meant commands/things that unity does not actual functions (sorry that was a distracting wording) For example, I wanted to make a simple pirate-themed bullethell game and was working on a script that would let the player drop off a bomb to damage enemies. When I tried using Instantiate(Object) to spawn the bomb, the script just replied with an error...

After searching the Internet for fixes and finding nothing, I tried making a new Unity Project and just copying and pasting the code into a new Script... and it worked. I have no Idea why that happened I didn't tinker with any settings or anything, just left the Project as it was.

I had the Script definitely present in the Scene and like I said it Updated in the Preview Window..

Make sure your game object is enable or the script attached to game object is enable,if every thing is done properly check the spell of Update function it should be like this "Update"

Also make sure you are not disabling the script from a different script, this sort of thing happens when projects become complex. Fixed itself is unlikely, If you see it happen again pause the play mode (don't stop) and check to see script component is enabled.

Another problem that happens, if you are trying to Find a object that doesn't exist, each subsequent line of code after the faulty line in the same bracket, will break to previous indentation and continue. $$anonymous$$ake sure you have execution order correct, in that, any object you are trying to reference exist before you Get.theObject. Example

 Void Update()
 {
     if (isBracket1 == true)
     {
         GetComponent<Object>();
         //if Object doesn't exist, Compiler will break back to previous indentation
 
         the ignored code;
         another ignored code;
     }
 
     if (isBracket2 == true)
     {
         //This code will still compile
 
         will execute code;
         more executed code;
     }
 }
