Transition single walk animation with start and end sections

Hi,

I have a little mole-like monster that digs itself into the ground when it starts moving, and then back out again when it stops. The 'walk' part of this animation is just little bits of dirt moving around where the character is 'walking'.

Is it possible (and how) to have a single 'walk' animation that transitions in with the 'digging down', then only plays the 'walking' part until it gets to its destination, and then transitions out of the walk animation with the 'crawling out' animation, or should I have 3 animations (digging down, waking, digging out) for this? I would prefer a single animation where the digging in and crawling out parts are part of the same animation if at all possible.

Oh, this is a 2D game.

I ended up making 3 animations. When the monster is ready to move, it triggers the dig animation which is set to only run once. Here, I added some code and when the transition exits, it finds the monster controller script and sets a bool to allow it to start moving. The transition then moves onto the walk animation. When walking is done, it transitions to the crawling out animation which is also set to only run once, and that transitions back to the idle animation.
